AIA Contract Documents Available to Educators

The Student Edition of AIA Contract Documents software is now available. This free resource is available to instructors teaching courses at institutions of higher learning.  It allows educators to provide their students with unlimited access to over 100 design and construction agreements and forms. Students will then be able to work with the very same industry standard documents used by the overwhelming majority of design and construction firms.

Interested?

Educators interested in incorporating the AIA Contract Documents software in their course work should send an email to aiadocsed@aia.org

The Software—Student Edition Program Overview

What is AIA Contract Documents software?

AIA Contract Documents software provides more than 100 agreements and forms which address every aspect of the complexity of today’s design and construction projects. Based on the widely accepted Microsoft® Word platform, the software enables collaboration across the entire project team.

Using AIA Contract Documents software, the user can edit documents with greater ease and effectiveness, complete documents quickly via dialog boxes which incorporate project and document-specific information automatically into the document, and create finals in PDF.

What is the Student Edition of the AIA Contract Documents software?

The student edition of AIA Contract Documents software provides users with all the documents and all the functions of the regular version with two exceptions.

• all final documents have a “Student Use Only” watermark,
• all documents have a footer which disallows commercial use of contract documents generated by the Student Edition of the AIA Contract Documents software

The student edition is exclusively for use as part of course work overseen by an instructor.

How will AIA Contract Documents software and licenses be distributed?

The AIA will provide a Web site from which instructors and their students can download AIA Contract Documents Software—Student Edition.

The AIA will provide each instructor with a code allowing a specific number of users to access the software. The instructor will distribute that code to his/her students. Users will use the code to activate their software for a one-year term.

Instructors and students may request technical support by calling 800-942-7732, or sending an e-mail to docstechsupport@aia.org. For assistance with the documents instructors and students may call 202-626-7526 or e-mail docinfo@aia.org.

Who is eligible to receive the software?

The student edition is available to instructors teaching courses and/or overseeing internship programs at institutions of higher learning.

Instructors teaching courses at schools of architecture accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) are approved to receive the student edition software. The student edition software is also available to instructors teaching at institutions of higher learning which meet the following criteria:

• the course must be directly or indirectly related to architecture, this includes construction management courses and law school courses;
• the course for which the student edition will be used must be part of a program which results in a degree or certificate upon successful completion of the program’s required course work; and
• the institution of higher learning must offer courses which are held face-to-face in a classroom

Instructors teaching a course or courses at an institution of higher learning which has not been accredited by NAAB will be asked to provide a syllabus for the course in which the student edition will be used.

The student edition is not available for distribution to instructors or students for individual study.

Can AIA Contract Documents software be used on a MAC computer?

No. AIA Contract Documents software currently only supports Windows PC.
