Description:
This is a professional position on the AIA Communities by Design
team, responsible for Disaster Assistance programs involving
community outreach and training at the local level to foster
leadership opportunities for AIA members, AIA local components and
the public at large. The incumbent focuses on training, outreach,
marketing, communications, continuing education, and program
delivery to AIA Members. The Manager will report directly to the
Director.
Duties: Serves as primary staff to the Disaster Assistance
program. Responsible for development and implementation of annual
programming, data capture, and management of the AIA Disaster
Assistance network.
Serves as a primary link between the Center and the AIA
Disaster Assistance Task Force, as well as AIA components;
communicates and coordinates Center activities with local
components and monitors local component activities related to
Disaster Assistance training and response, aligning outreach with
efforts of two other key AIA national component teams (Component
Relations and Marketing/Promotion).
Serves as the primary staff person to the AIA Disaster
Response Coordination Team, providing communications and
coordination support between AIA National, the Disaster Assistance
Network, and AIA Components during disaster response events;
Assists in developing and disseminating programs, projects
and resources related to Disaster Assistance.. Responds to
information requests from AIA members, AIA components, and the
general public on Disaster Assistance activities and issues.
Provides requested staff support for Design Assistance Teams
(at least one annually), and other group meetings including
comprehensive planning, budgeting, scheduling, material
preparation, communications, staffing for national and regional
conferences, workshops, meetings, and other efforts.
Assists in developing AIA Center for Communities by Design
marketing plans, communications, and program delivery systems; work
with the AIA Marketing and Communications team to integrate the AIA
brand throughout all Center activities and promote media coverage
at the national and component levels.
Provides input to program content development, strategic
planning, and budgeting as requested.

Experience:
Experience managing multiple priorities and responsibilities
independently. Flexibility and high energy are a must. Experience
working independently and using initiative and independent judgment
to complete complex projects on or before deadlines. Superior
organizational skills, skills in identifying and developing
opportunities for outreach to underrepresented groups, and the
ability to multi-task and manage multiple duties simultaneously.
Strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to communicate
effectively with diverse audiences. Demonstrated experience writing
marketing materials, reports, manuals, articles and correspondence.
Demonstrated experience analyzing complex subjects quickly,
researching and providing logical presentations both orally and in
writing to a wide range of audiences. Ability to package and
coordinate multiple products and services and present them in a
cohesive whole. An understanding of Emergency Management, Building
Assessment, Disaster Assistance and the built environment are
preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point,
Outlook and knowledge of Internet research methods.
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Design,
Marketing/Communications, Architecture or related field
desired.
